When a garage door works they are wonderful. They make your life easier. Most new models now contain remote controls so that you can open the door before entering the driveway. They are quiet and efficient. Since people rarely have them looked at until they don’t open or close, many garage doors are an accident waiting to happen. Like anything else of value they need to be maintained periodically to prevent problems. Chances are if you have a garage door you will experience a malfunction sometime during its existence. Garage doors are used often and because of this parts get worn and falter. Springs can snap and bolts can become loose.
Pull the red emergency release cord located above the door to enable you to manually lift the door. Remember that the garage door is a heavy object, and even heavier without the support of the spring which would normally neutralize the weight. If it’s too heavy to lift yourself, have someone else help you. If you accidentally drop the door while you are manually lifting, DO NOT try and stop it with your foot. Dropping a 300 pound door on your foot or any other body part is bound to ruin your day.
Finally it helps to see if the opener will be able to work with any materials that can work to get it to stop working in the event that something is in the door’s way. Sensors can be used by many openers by creating an invisible beam at a point around the opener. When an object obstructs that beam the door will stop working and move back to an open position.
Rather than have your Garage Door Medics look like an eye-sore, let it stand out like eye-candy! A paint-job isn’t always the answer to getting a clean garage door. If you regularly bathe the door with mild soap – such as dish wash soap – and a soft bristle brush, you can have your door looking like new in no time. Remember to avoid using abrasive cleaners and strong chemical liquid cleaners which could damage the paint. For those of you who own steel garage doors, a coat of car wax will protect the door from acid rain and dust. If you decide to give it a little “wax-on, wax-off”, remember to avoid doing it in direct sunlight to achieve better results.
Also check if all the cables and wires are properly connected and there are no mismatched wires. A prime indicator of this problem is the jamming of the door in the middle or right next to the floor. The door would fluctuate and stop randomly in the middle of opening and closing.
If there aren’t any dents in the metal tracks then chances are that the tracks are not properly aligned causing the garage door to go off track. Properly aligned tracks are essential for the door to function smoothly. Simply loosen the bolts and gently tap the tracks into position. Carefully inspect the tracks to ensure they are in alignment and then screw the bolts back in.
Finally, you have done great job of painting your garage door. You will see the different before and after the painting process. With the new paint that you apply, you will find that the door that you have in your garage will look great.
